Web Hosting Canada Review

At this stage, I recommend Web Hosting Canada. This is after trying HostPapa and a few others. At the moment, these are the two big ones and I would go with Web Hosting Canada.

If you are in a hurry, check them out here.

Or, read on to learn more.

So what exactly are the things that really matter when it comes to web hosting?

There are a few things but let me show you what I focus on:

1. Security

2. FREE SSL Certificates

3. FREE CDN

4. Site Loading Speed

5. Unlimited Domains

6. 2nd Year Costs of Hosting

7. Location of Server

SECURITY is Number One

Gone are the days when people could upload their websites to a hosting provider and not worry about any security. Today, there are many problems that can arise from not taking care of your website’s security. Hacking is one of the most common problems that web hosts face today, which can lead to stolen data or even worse, ransomware attacks.

Security is very important when hosting a website. Hosting companies will always be looking for ways to ensure that their customers feel safe and secure in their environment.

Some hosting providers also provide security through what they call “web host firewall”. This firewall is meant to protect the customer from any kind of cyber threats like hacking, spamming and similar threats.

Anyways, without getting into the details, one thing is for sure, any major web hosting company, these guys are pretty secure as well. So that wasn’t an issue for me, but something I’d definitely like to look at.

FREE SSL or NO SALE!

SSL is a term used to refer to Secure Sockets Layer. It is a protocol that helps to keep data safe while being transmitted over the internet. SSL encrypts data so it cannot be read by third parties.

SSL is a term used to refer to Secure Sockets Layer. It is a protocol that helps to keep data safe while being transmitted over the internet. SSL encrypts data so it cannot be read by third parties.

Now a lot of major web hosting companies out there, like to charge you separately for each domain. Which I think is just their way of making more money. Nothing wrong with that but I prefer a company that offers unlimited SSL certificates.

Well Web Hosting Canada Does that. So this was another checkmark for me.

CDN is a must

Content delivery network is a network of servers used to deliver digital content.

Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) are a useful tool to ensure that your website loads quickly and consistently for your visitors, no matter where they are located. CDNs work by storing copies of your webpages on servers around the world, so that when someone visits your site, they download the copy closest to them, rather than downloading copies from all over the world which would take much more time and bandwidth.

Well Web Hosting Canada offers this service as well. These days, lots of web hosting companies do this but make sure they don’t charge you extra for it. WHC doesn’t. At least not at this point. So I’m good.

Site Loading Speed

Site loading speed is a critical factor for a site’s rank on Google and other search engines. Site speed has been found to be the determining factor for all sites. A slow loading site can negatively affect conversion rates because users will become frustrated and leave the site as a result of the frustration.

Achieving high-speed performance is not easy, even for those who have access to resources that could help them achieve it. The average web page size has grown from 1 megabyte in 1996 to over 2 megabytes today, which means that website owners must take a more aggressive approach in their efforts to compress content and reduce load times.

The pro level package that I’m on, offers more than enough power to make sure my site loads fast. This also depends on the number of bells and whistles you have on your site so make sure they are optimized as well.

Site loading speed matters and we are set here as well.

UNLIMITED Domains

Domain is the first thing that will be on your mind when you are thinking of hosting. Unlimited domains give you the freedom to host unlimited websites on one hosting account. This feature has made it easier for people who would like to build multiple blogs / websites.

WHC has this option as well.

Cost of 2nd Year of Hosting

Web hosting service providers offer plans with various levels of cost and features. As technology advances, providers are offering more advanced hosting services for very competitive rates.

I understand this but their some weird trend going on right now. Where after the first year, all these companies are charging you way more than the initial amount. I don’t understand this but with WHC, it’s by far the cheapest.

Location of Server

The Web server (sometimes called a Web host) is the computer that provides content to visitors. When you type in a URL, your browser sends a request for Web page files to the Web server, which then searches for and returns the appropriate HTML document.

Some of the factors to consider when choosing a location for your web server include:

– The distance between your company and the target audience. If your company’s target audience is near to where you are hosting your website, it will be easier for them to access it and they will experience faster connection speeds.

– The connection speed between you and other websites on the same hosting plan as yours. You may find that this has an impact on how fast pages load, especially if there are other sites hosted with you on the same infrastructure.

Now personally, I can’t say if the location of the server matters. My own site was on Siteground (US Servers) but was serving the Canadian market just fine.

So this one I’m not sure of but rather prefer Canadian location for servers if I’m serving Canadians vs having a server in Jamaica or something (Unless I’m serving Jamaicans).

I think you get my point.

Anyways, these are the reasons why I think Web Hosting Canada (WHC) is the best Canadian Web Hosting company right now and all my sites are hosted with them.

Web Hosting Canada (WHC), based in Montreal, has been offering web hosting solutions to Canadian businesses and individuals since 2003. Over the past two decades, WHC has positioned itself as a reliable provider for customers looking for hosting services that prioritize Canadian data compliance, solid performance, and local support.

This review provides a comprehensive look at WHC’s hosting services, performance, pricing, support, security, and overall value. The goal is to present an impartial assessment to help potential customers make informed decisions.

Company Background

Founded in 2003, WHC emerged at a time when Canadian businesses were increasingly seeking local hosting solutions rather than relying on U.S.-based providers. The company has grown steadily, serving over 25,000 clients nationwide. WHC operates two main data centers located in Montreal and Vancouver. Hosting data within Canada ensures compliance with national privacy laws and typically results in faster site loading for Canadian audiences.

WHC emphasizes simplicity and accessibility, targeting small- to medium-sized businesses as well as entrepreneurs who require a reliable web presence without complicated technical requirements. Over the years, the company has expanded its offerings beyond standard web hosting to include cloud solutions, dedicated servers, and managed WordPress hosting.

Hosting Plans and Services

WHC provides a diverse range of hosting options designed to cater to different types of customers. Here is a detailed breakdown:

1. Shared Web Hosting

Shared hosting remains the most popular option for small businesses and personal websites. WHC’s shared hosting plans include:

  • Starter Plan – Ideal for personal blogs or small websites with moderate traffic. It includes a free domain for the first year, SSL certificate, and basic site builder tools.

  • Pro Plan – Designed for websites expecting higher traffic or using content management systems like WordPress or Joomla. Offers additional resources and better performance.

All plans feature unlimited disk space, email accounts, and bandwidth, which is particularly attractive to small business owners who want predictable costs without worrying about overages.

2. Managed WordPress Hosting

WHC’s managed WordPress hosting focuses on performance and security, which is crucial for professional blogs and business websites. Key features include:

  • Automatic updates for WordPress core, plugins, and themes

  • Enhanced security measures including malware scanning and SSL certificates

  • Optimized server configurations for faster loading speeds

  • Daily backups and restore options

This hosting tier is suitable for businesses that want to maintain a professional WordPress presence without managing technical details themselves.

3. Cloud Hosting

Cloud hosting provides scalable resources for websites that need flexibility. WHC’s cloud solutions offer:

  • Multiple server configurations for different performance levels

  • Ability to scale resources based on traffic demands

  • Managed support for software updates and security patches

This option is ideal for growing businesses that anticipate rapid expansion or fluctuating traffic volumes.

4. Dedicated Servers

For high-traffic sites or enterprise applications, WHC offers dedicated servers. Features include:

  • Full server control for advanced customization

  • High-performance SSD storage

  • Comprehensive support for software installation and server management

  • Enhanced security and redundancy options

Pricing for dedicated servers starts at roughly C$149.99 per month, making it a premium choice for organizations that need robust infrastructure.

5. Reseller Hosting

WHC also offers reseller hosting plans for entrepreneurs who want to provide hosting services under their own brand. Key benefits include:

  • White-label hosting options

  • Control over pricing and branding

  • Scalability to add more clients as the business grows

Reseller hosting provides an opportunity for web developers and agencies to generate additional revenue by offering hosting services alongside website design or maintenance packages.

Performance and Reliability

Performance is a critical factor in web hosting, and WHC claims a 99.9% uptime guarantee. While this translates to roughly 43 minutes of downtime per month, independent monitoring indicates uptime often reaches 99.96%, which is slightly above average for shared hosting providers.

Server Technology

WHC leverages modern technologies to improve performance:

  • SSD Storage: Ensures faster read/write operations and improved page load times

  • LiteSpeed Servers: Provides better performance for dynamic sites, especially WordPress

  • Canadian Data Centers: Hosting locally reduces latency for Canadian visitors

WHC also offers Site Quality Monitoring (SQM) tools that allow users to track uptime, load speed, and SEO metrics. This is particularly valuable for businesses that rely on online visibility and need consistent performance.

Security Features

WHC prioritizes website security through multiple layers:

  • Free SSL certificates on all plans to secure visitor connections

  • Daily backups for recovery in case of data loss or malware attack

  • Regular updates for software and plugins in managed WordPress plans

  • Malware scanning and firewall configurations

While these measures are standard across most hosting providers, WHC’s implementation of Canadian data compliance provides an added layer of reassurance for local businesses.

Customer Support

WHC offers 24/7 bilingual support (English and French) via live chat, email, and phone.

Support Quality

  • Most customers report courteous and helpful support staff

  • Some reviews note that technical issues requiring advanced server knowledge may take longer to resolve

  • Resources such as knowledge base articles and tutorials are available, although limited compared to larger international hosts

Consistent, responsive support is especially important for small businesses without dedicated IT teams. WHC generally scores positively in customer satisfaction surveys, though occasional complaints about depth of expertise have been noted.

Pricing and Value

WHC’s pricing is competitive within the Canadian hosting market:

  • Starter Plan: C$3.99/month

  • Pro Plan: Slightly higher, reflecting enhanced resources

  • Managed WordPress: Starting around C$7–10/month

  • Dedicated Servers: C$149.99/month

It’s important to note that renewal rates are often higher than initial promotional prices. However, the inclusion of free domains, SSL certificates, and website builders adds value. WHC’s pricing structure makes it accessible to both individual site owners and small businesses.

User Feedback

Customer reviews are mixed:

  • Positive feedback: Highlights reliability, user-friendly interfaces, and responsive support

  • Negative feedback: Mentions occasional technical delays or limited support expertise for complex issues

Online forums such as Reddit and Trustpilot provide a broad spectrum of opinions, which reinforces the importance of evaluating WHC based on individual needs and technical requirements.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Canadian-based data centers for fast local access and privacy compliance

  • Multiple hosting options, including shared, managed WordPress, cloud, and dedicated servers

  • 24/7 bilingual customer support

  • Competitive pricing with included features like SSL and free domain

Cons:

  • Occasional reports of limited technical support expertise

  • Renewal rates higher than introductory pricing

  • Smaller knowledge base compared to larger global providers

Their service offerings cover a wide range of needs, from basic personal sites to high-performance enterprise applications. With local data centers, bilingual support, and competitive pricing, WHC appeals to customers looking for a Canadian-focused hosting solution.

While there are occasional criticisms regarding technical support depth and renewal pricing, overall, WHC presents a solid option for those prioritizing performance, local hosting, and privacy compliance.
